Hydrus Engineering
“Hydrus Engineering S.A. is a Greek-based global engineering firm established and based in Athens since 2009, providing integrated engineering solutions, primarily across the maritime, energy and defence sectors, from concept and feasibility studies to detailed design, procurement, and on-site supervision. Its services follow an end-to-end approach, with a strong focus on innovation, digitalization, and decarbonization, particularly in shipping and energy transition applications.
The company has experienced steady growth, executing thousands of engineering projects worldwide and building an international footprint with offices and coordination hubs in locations such as Shanghai and Limassol. It employs on the order of a few hundred professionals (roughly 200 staff) and has delivered more than 3,000 projects, including large-scale maritime and energy assignments. Its internal structure includes specialized divisions (technical, marine, and new building), enabling it to manage complex, multidisciplinary engineering services across global markets.
Hydrus Engineering is also deeply involved in R&D projects, mainly co-funded by the EU (e.g. Horizon Europe, CEF, EDF), often as coordinator. Its Ιnnovation Ηub team is actively engaged in innovative engineering activities focusing on alternative fuels, decarbonization, and advanced maritime technologies, having managed a portfolio of projects with a total budget of more than €30 million, within the last 6 years. Key initiatives include LH2CRAFT (liquid hydrogen storage and transport for shipping), NH3CRAFT (ammonia-based zero-carbon fuels), FLEETfor55 (roadmap and digital tools for energy-efficient ship design aligned with EU “Fit for 55”), and SAFeCRAFT (safe, sustainable ship design using innovative materials, digital tools, and lifecycle analysis). Through these initiatives, the company strengthens its role in linking European research with practical deployment of low-carbon, safe maritime technologies.”
